Hanauma Bay about 20 miles south of Lanikai Beach topped the 14th annual
ranking out today from Stephen Leatherman, the florida environmenal
scientist known as Dr. Beach. Hawaii's beaches have dominated the number
one position althoughtFlorida beaches were most numerous on
Leatherman's most recent list,. Hawaii's Hanalei Bay on the north shore
of Kauai also earned a spot. Kaanapali Beach on Maui, last year's
national winner, was excluded from the survey as was Lanikai Beach. Once
a beach earns the top spot on Leatherman's list as Lanikai and
Kaanapali Beach did in years past, he removes it from consideration.
