The world lost a visionary yesterday. The outpouring of support and admiration has been remarkable. In The Surf

We humans are drawn to the shoreline, to live and to play. Some of us have even found a home in the waves, riding on gentle swells or braving roaring mountains of seawater. Surfing has been a part of human lives for centuries and is enjoyed around the world today. The stormy summer we've had this year provided some spectacular (if dangerous) conditions for surfers, many of them captured in photos below. Gathered here are images from the past several months of people (and animals) in the surf, including professional surfers, amateurs, spectators, and more. [38 photos]

Amazing Rainy Day Paintings by Gregory Thielker

Gregory Thielker’s awe-inspiring oil paintings explores the sensation of seeing through a car windshield while driving through the rain. His paintings are so realistic that you can almost feel the wet and cold weather.
lowroad2
Gregory Thielker says:
My most recent paintings and drawings explore the sensation of seeing from a car while driving through the rain. I am fascinated with the constantly changing, yet particular landscapes seen from the car and also the way that the water on the windshield interacts with that landscape. The water creates a shifting lens for the way we see the environment- both highlights and obscures our viewing. Perspectives slip and compress, while shapes and colors merge into one another. I also work with relationships between surface and depth, between flatness and illusion. These works are born out of real experience and have a close relationship with the medium of painting- its fluidity, transparency, and capacity for layering, mixing, and blending. I draw upon a lineage of painters from Caspar David Friedrich to Gerhard Richter.
The paintings themselves are compiled from hundreds of photographs taken while driving in rainstorms with the windshield wipers turned off. While these moments are commonly ignored or deemed a necessary part of reaching our desired destination, they are powerfully charged with weather, light, and color- all experienced at a great velocity. This combination of speed and subdued calm, as the world goes past, creates a kind of transcendental moment that I hope to tap into with the fluidity of the painting medium.
Gregory Thielker was born in New Jersey in 1979 and he currently lives and works in Watertown, Massachusetts. He studied art history and studio art at Williams College before training in painting at Washington University in St. Louis. Moving to Boston was an important but familiar change that allowed him to refocus his interests on views the urban landscape.

The Impossible Stone Balancing Art of Adrian Gray

Adrian Gray has been developing his art of stone balancing for many years. His ability to create almost impossible to believe compositions has created wonder and left witnesses in awe and mesmerized.
By very carefully feeling the balancing point of each rock he handles - a process that requires awesome skill and patience - Gray is able to arrange them in ways that seem incredible. 'The trick is putting together stones which look like they couldn't possibly sit on top of one another. Only then can you you make something extraordinary' , Gray explains.
stone-balancing (2)
All the stones in these pictures are balanced, strictly without the aid of adhesive, pins or computer manipulation. They remain in place through the natural force of gravity and friction. ‘Nature’s glue’ sustains them in these seemingly impossible positions and it is the capricious natural forces of wind or waves that returns them to obscurity amongst their fellow boulders.

Christina lihan: Paper shadowbox sculptures

'uffizi', a paper shadowbox sculpture by christina lihan

originally trained as an architect, US-based artist christina lihan creates elaborate paper relief sculptures,
mounted in shadowboxes and ranging from two to six inches deep. as subjects she has taken buildings ranging
from the eiffel tower and taj mahal to private residences and american cities.

all carefully assembled in detailed layers, the artworks are composed of unpainted, 300lb. coldpress watercolour paper.
lihan begins her work by photographing and sketching the site, generally creating scaled charcoal drawings
that she then enlarges to the planned size of the finished piece. she lays out the buildings directly over these sketched forms,
and cutting out details in place and ultimately assembling all the components into the finished composition.
all carving, scoring, cutting, and folding is completed by hand, and lihan admits that, basing her work
primarily on its aesthetic effect rather than on mathematical measurement, she frequently resizes the pieces
over the course of production to achieve the most accurate perspective.

Magnificent and impetuous horses painted by Vasko Taškovski

“On his paintings in oil technique, and pencils in color, Vasko Taskovki realizes a plastic connection between the fact experienced visually, but expressed with spirit. On the other hand, he thinks that everything should be present on his painting: the form, the light, the domain of the intelligence and sensitivity, the dynamics and the steadiness, following the scientific geometry that contributes for the complete harmony of the architecture of the painting, but all the time taking care not to paint any real aspect of the things, as I already mentioned.”

25 Most Weird Architecture Building Designs

Good architecture is a way to impress people. There are some buildings and sculptures that really don’t seem real, being as impressive as they are. Sometimes you might think it is impossible for a building to look like that, as some models look so twisted. Of course besides them having weird shapes and designs, architects have to think about their usability and safety. Architecture might seem rigid from the design point of view, because of the factors I have already mentioned, but creative people always find a workaround and they make their creations fun and at the same time safe to use. This is why they are up to break all the rules and go for something impressive and strange at the same time. Check out a series of photos depicting amazing architectures from all over the world. I myself was impressed to be honest.
